Randy Copeland

Senior Pastor

My life Story

I was born and raised in Gadsden, AL until the age of 13 when my family relocated to Hartselle, AL. After years of being raised in the church I decided to take my own path that lead to much heart break and regret. At 25 years of age I found myself at the end of myself as an alcoholic and drug addict. In April of 1995 I cried out the Jesus Christ and asked to be saved. In that moment a miracle occurred and not only was I saved but was also delivered from the addictions that had scared my life.
In 1996 I became a member of Decatur Baptist Church where I faithfully attended and grew in the ministry. In September of 2000 I married the love of my life Cyndi after meeting her in the singles ministry of the church. in 2005 I was called on staff at Decatur Baptist where I served for seven years. In 2010 Cyndi and I were blessed with our son Ryder. In 2011 I became the pastor of Columbia Baptist Church in Columbia, Kentucky where I served for two years. In 2013 we left Kentucky and moved to Moulton, Alabama to become the pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Hope for Pleasant Grove

My desire for PGBC is for every member to find God’s plan for their life and how that fits into the ministries of PGBC. We do this by equipping each member to do the work of ministry which is evangelism and discipleship. When we all do that together we will reach our community and more of the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Berry Givens

Student Pastor

My life Story

I grew up in a pastor’s home and gave my life to Christ when I was 9 years old. I played sports all throughout my childhood and went on to play golf in my first 2 years of college before pursuing a career in golf management at Mississippi State University. While I was pursuing golf as my career, I never really spent much time praying about if that was God’s plan for my life. I spent more time telling God that I wanted to pursue golf and that I wanted him to use me in that capacity. It was at that time that God began to change my heart and reveal to me that He was calling me to be a student pastor. I transferred to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where I finished my education. I’ve been in student ministry since March of 2013.
Nicole and I met when we were both attending Mississippi State University where we were both involved in the same college ministry. We have been married since June of 2015 and still go back to where it all began by going to Mississippi State football games where we cheer on our Bulldogs. Our son, Lucas, was born June 12, 2016.
We felt God calling us to move to Pleasant Grove at the end of 2015 so we moved to Moulton in the beginning of 2016. God has provided for us time and time again since we have moved, and He has blessed us with an amazing church family.

Hope for Pleasant Grove

My desire for Pleasant Grove is that we would be a church that is known for its desire to make disciples both locally and around the world. I pray that we will feel the urgency for the gospel in the world, and will be obedient to make disciples and develop disciple makers.

Neil Carter

Education Pastor

My life Story

Neil Carter serves as Associate Pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is married to Debbie, who serves as a Ministry Assistant at the church. They have two married children, Allison Gilbert (Chad), Nashville, TN, and Timothy Carter (Samantha), Warrior, AL. Neil and Debbie have two grandchildren, Jude Carter, 3 years old and Julia Carter, 9 months old.
I have served at Pleasant Grove for 28 years. I began as Minister of Education and Youth. I later served as Minister of Education and Senior Adults as the church really began to grow and added new staff members. I later transitioned to Education, Senior Adults and Missions. I now serve as Pastor of Adult Education, Outreach Ministry (vans), Missions and Benevolence. I also teach an adult couples Sunday School class, work in AWANA and drive a van. My heart has always been tender toward children who had no way to go to church unless someone brought them. I was basically a ‘bus’ child myself because my mother was very ill and did not drive and my dad was gone much of the time with his job.
I grew up at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, AL and was blessed with amazing pastors and your directors. My deep love for missions was instilled in me here. It was during a summer youth camp that God burned my heart with His call to the ministry. After graduating from the University of North Alabama, we headed to Ft. Worth, TX to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. Our first church was New Salem Baptist Church in Alexander City, AL and then we went to First Baptist Church, Albertville as Minister of Education and Youth. I then served as pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Hatton, AL for 7 years prior to coming to Pleasant Grove.
While pastor at Providence, God revealed that I had never really given Him control of my life…that I had depended on my own abilities. Even though I had walked an aisle and been baptized as a child, it was during a revival at Whitesburg Baptist Church that I surrendered my life totally and completely to God. I went back to my church as a now born-again pastor.

Hope for Pleasant Grove

Debbie and I are anxious to see what the Lord has in store for Pleasant Grove and for us. This journey with the church family we have here has been exciting and wonderful. We know that the days ahead are going to be full of blessings for the congregation and community. We pray that PGBC continues to be an Acts 1:8 Church. Light has been sent out around the world.

Harriet Inman

Children’s Director

My life Story

I was born and raised in Mount Hope, AL. and grew up in Mount Hope Baptist Church. At the age of 15 I was saved at youth camp. Soon after being saved, God impressed on me to begin a community children’s choir and I led this choir for several years. In 1989, Mount Hope Baptist called me as Music Director for the adult choir. I served there for 11 more years. In January of 2000 our family became part of the Pleasant Grove family. Soon after coming to Pleasant Grove, I volunteered as the toddler choir director and later began working with the 1st-6th grade choir. After serving as a volunteer for a couple of years, Pleasant Grove called me as their Children’s Ministry Director. I have faithfully served in this ministry for many years. I earned my elementary education BS degree from Athens State University and Masters from the University of West Alabama. I also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of North Alabama. These degrees have been truly beneficial for my ministry here. I have been employed with Lawrence County Schools for the last 24 years where I currently work as Reading Specialist at Mount Hope School.

Hope for Pleasant Grove

It is my prayer that through teaching God’s word to our children and showing them the love of Jesus that they will be saved at a young age and we as children’s ministry leaders will continue to disciple them as they grow in Christ.

Jim Fiscus

Worship Pastor

My life Story

I was born December 3, 1973 in New Castle, Indiana. At the age of three my family moved to Northwest Alabama where I was raised. My dad was a preacher and we were very involved in church. Over the years I had many opportunities to trust Christ but, even though I loved church, I did not fully trust Him until April 19, 1993. In a friend’s living room I knelt down and gave my life to Christ. Wow, what a difference!
Shortly after trusting Christ I surrendered to ministry.
Over the years that ministry has included serving at a number of different churches in various roles. Much of that time has been as Senior Pastor; but I have also enjoyed working with youth, children, senior adults and, of course, music.
I have been very involved in the Muscle Shoals Baptist Association where I serve as moderator.
I am the Men’s Ministry Director for the association and I serve on the Mission and VBS Committees. Each summer I help lead an association mission trip of around 75 people. I also serve as the immediate past president of the pastor’s fellowship.Having a personal relationship with the King of Kings is the greatest thing to ever happen to me. A close second is the day I met my wife, Christy. After talking and dating for some time, we married on August 24, 1996. We have 5 children, David, Steven, Nathan, Courtney, and Sarah and several grandchildren.
In the spring of 2017 I felt God leading our family to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to work with the Music Ministry. I began as the Worship Pastor in June. We are excited to be here. God has blessed us so richly to call the PGBC church family our home.

Hope for Pleasant Grove

It is my prayer and desire to see God honored through being the center of our lives and worship. I hope to lead His people, by example, as they worship Him for who He truly is and desire to make Him the Lord of their lives.
